How Lydney Community Centre Achieved 76% Reduction in Energy Costs with Solar PV and Battery Storage.

Lydney Community Centre, located in Lydney, Gloucestershire, approved Nimbus Solar to help the community centre reduce electricity consumption and lower its carbon footprint. The Solar PV and battery storage system aims to generate a significant portion of the community centres  electricity on-site but also offers the potential for long-term financial savings and a positive environmental impact.

Objectives
Lydney Community Centre needed a reliable solar PV system that would allow them to meet their daily energy consumption needs while reducing reliance on the grid. The key requirements included:

  • Energy Needs: The client had an estimated annual electricity consumption of 10,500 kWh.
  • Sustainability Goals: Maximise self-consumption of solar power and reduce the community centre carbon footprint.
  • Budget Constraints: The solution needed to offer a solid return on investment, with a reasonable payback period between 10 to 11 years.
  • Space/Location Considerations: A mix of in-roof and on-roof solar systems were required due to roof space.
  • Other Factors: The system needed to include bird protection to preserve the integrity of the panels.

Solar PV Selection

This combination was chosen to meet the client’s daily energy consumption and increase self-consumption by storing excess energy produced during the day for use in the evenings.

  • 36 x DMEG DM450M10RT 450w panels, known for their efficiency and durability.
  • 1 x Fox H3 15kW Pro 3PH Hybrid Inverter, which allows for seamless integration with battery storage.
  • 3 x Fox ESS EQ4800-M 4.66kWh, totalling 13.93 kWh Battery storage
  • GSE system for 12 solar panels
  • On-roof Rail system for for 24 solar panels
  • BirdBlocker protection was installed to prevent damage to the solar arrays.
  • Temporary scaffolding was used to ensure safe and efficient installation of the solar PV system.
